For people who plan testing, run it and defend it to management

Senior testers about to take the lead

You’re taking over a team or a project and want to know how to plan, estimate and report testing, not just do it.

Test leads and test managers

You run testing and want a method you can defend: risk-based priorities, estimates and metrics that management understands too.

QA and project managers

You make decisions on quality and budget and need to understand what testing costs and what it delivers.

Also a good fit for developers in a QA role, product owners and delivery managers.

Official CTAL-TM v3.0 syllabus (ISTQB)

Can you manage by risk?

On the course you work through what test managers deal with every week: what to test first, how long it will take and whether you can ship. Sample exercises:

A risk matrix for a payment module

You rate risks by likelihood and impact, then use the matrix to decide what to test first, how deep to go and what to leave out on purpose.

A three-point effort estimate

You build an estimate from optimistic, most likely and pessimistic values, and defend it when management wants the date sooner.

A management report from 4 metrics

You pick the metrics that answer “can we ship?” and turn them into a short report with a clear recommendation.

How is v3.0 different from the previous 2012 version?

The 2024 v3.0 syllabus builds on the new Foundation Level 4.0. It’s shorter and more practical, with more room for hybrid and agile projects, the project test strategy, test tools and stakeholder relationships. That’s why the course now takes 4 days instead of 5. Certificates under the 2012 version remain valid.

Do I need the ISTQB Foundation Level certificate?

For the exam, yes: ISTQB requires the CTFL certificate. You can join the course without it, but you can only take the CTAL-TM exam once you hold CTFL.

How good does my English need to be?

The course and the exam are in English. Working English is enough: you can follow technical text and hold a discussion with the trainer. If English isn’t your first language, you get 25% extra time in the exam free of charge: 150 minutes instead of 120.

Is the exam included, and how does it work?

It has 50 multiple-choice questions, takes 120 minutes and the pass mark is 65%. The exam is run by CaSQB (Czech and Slovak Quality Board).

What if I don’t pass the first time?

You pay for another attempt again in full, through us or directly with CaSQB. CaSQB exams have no 2TRY option and no discounted retake.

Will there be a recording of the course?

No, there will be no recording of the course.
